MOURINHO WANTS LIVERPOOL PLAYER AT ROMA

Newly appointed AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho is eyeing a move for Liverpool playmaker XerdanShaqirias he prepares to take his place in the dugout at the Italian Serie A outfit. Current Roma manager Paulo Fonseca will leave the capital club at the end of the season and Mourinho has already been named as his replacement.

The report from Calcio in Pillole claimed that Mourinho will rival three other clubs in the race to sign Swiss international Shaqiri from Liverpool when the summer’s transfer window resumes in the next few weeks. Apart from AS Roma, other teams like Turkish Super League giants Fenerbahce, Spanish La Liga side Sevilla and Lazio are also keen on signing Shaqiri in time for the new season.

Mourinho was sacked by Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur last month and Roma didn’t waste anytime in offering the Portuguese tactician a new job. The ex-Real Madrid and Inter Milan manager has been given a three-year deal. Mourinho is expected to resume the job in the next few weeks and he has already been laying the groundwork to make his return to management a successful one.

Roma and other interested clubs keen to sign Shaqiriwill have to pay a transfer fee for him with Liverpool opposed to the idea of a loan move for the player who has two years left on the five-year deal signed when he joined the Reds three years ago.

Swiss international Shaqiri left Stoke City to join Liverpool in the summer of 2018 after the Potters suffered demotion from the Premier League to the English Championship. The Reds activated the £13m release clause in his Stoke City contract to sign him. He won the Champions League title with Liverpool in his debut season andthe Premier League title with the club in his second season.
